A teacher is one of the most important and lasting influences in a child’s life. CPLC, along with its corporate and community partners, established the Esperanza Latino Teacher Awards to recognize the impact Latino teachers have on their students. Translated into English, “Esperanza” means “Hope,” and so this prestigious event celebrates outstanding educators who are the hope for future generations. The Esperanza Latino Teacher Awards is the only awards program that highlights outstanding Latino educators throughout Nevada.

CPLC is committed to ensuring everyone has the solid foundation of an education and believes that quality educators play a tremendous role in motivating children to stay in school. In support of this, CPLC is committed to celebrating educators who ignite in our students a spirit of learning that spills over and impacts so many others within the community. The submission process is a peer nomination in which the applicant must meet the following criteria:

• Inspire students of all backgrounds to learn
• Play an active role in their school and community
• Spend the majority of each school day in the classroom
• Possess a valid Nevada Teaching Certificate 
• Teach at a state-approved or accredited school in Arizona

NOMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

Any teacher, principal, or superintendent from an accredited education institution may nominate an educator who meets the criteria below to be an Esperanza   Latino Teacher Award winner. A total of three teachers will be selected by a panel of educators and community leaders. The 1st Annual Esperanza Latino Teacher Awards, scheduled for May 5th, 2017, presented by Southwest Airlines and held inside the New York New York Hotel & Casino.

AWARD CATEGORIES: 

LATINO TEACHER  NOMINEE ELIGIBILITY  - 2 HONOREES 

•    Nominee must be a full-time teacher of Latino descent
•    Nominee must teach at a state-approved or accredited school in Nevada with 1 year minimum experience

MULTI-CULTURAL TEACHER NOMINEE ELIGIBILITY  - 1 HONOREE 

• Nominee must be a full-time teacher of “ANY CULTURAL DECENT” who impacts Latino & Minority student
• Nominee must teach at a state-approved or accredited school in Nevada with 1 year minimum experience
